Wait, I thought Tom was in bed with ATi.

Man, he jumps bandwagons so quickly I have lost track.

An interesting note on the side: more RAM doesn't seem to yield any performance benefits in DOOM III, as the Radeon 9800 PRO 256 MB shows. ... All results from ATi's Radeon 9700 PRO and 9800 PRO (128) were obtained using Catalyst 3.2.

*GASP* You mean the very same drivers that contained a rather huge bug that prevented the use of anything over 128MB properly? No wonder there is no perceivable performance increase.

Just so you know I am not blowing smoke regarding the Catalyst 3.2 remarks, here's a link:

ATI’s Catalyst 3.4 drivers are very solid as well. We experienced no driver problems whatsoever with these drivers. Just remember, if you are going to get a 256MB 9800 Pro, you need to run with Catalyst 3.4 or higher to utilize all the RAM on the video card.

Judging by the hardware requirements I'd say your on target big time!!!

Keep in mind that Doom 3 is STILL in Alpha version, and that it lacks the optimisations that the final release will no doubt have... You should read the articles for the later Radeon and Geforce FX cards on http://www.guru3d.com - he explains that stuff in those reviews.
