This is getting out of control - 0x000000C5 and freezes, please HELP
Yes, and another thing is mouse freezing not causing or related to a mentioned hard system-lock though, it's just very annoying. Also see this thread below that I opened and that might be related. Its about the ATAPI related errors I am constantly getting lately (but I suspect this is related to too high temperatures at the time when it occurs): The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period 1. Well, there was another BSOD, that I think it was caused by Regmon or Filemon. And I don't mean that "bad-pointer-calling-causing-BSOD" caused by a bug (I guess it was discovered by me, and confirmed by Mark Russinovich) in versions above Regmon 6.06 and Filemon 6.07, so Filemon 6.1 or Regmon 6.1 (but I guess it was only Filemon related error), because the last versions are certainly without this error, it was fixed in Filemon 6.11 ... But even with these bug-free versions I was constantly getting the 0x0000007E BSODs, and they stopped occuring right after I stopped running them as "residents" (running them non-stop), for my hardware and other specs, see http://users.volja.net/tayiper/specs.html 2. So during all this time I was trying to "isolate" the problem (trying/hoping to find a fault-causing program), and find a cause for the 0x000000C5 one, and in the end even actually stopped appearing after I didn't run my Agnitum Outpost firewall anymore (or in other words - I am still waiting to see one), but the thing with "freezing" remains even with XP firewall running or without any firewall running at all. Other things that I've tried were (and belive me I tried almost everything possible) for instance disabling my AV program's file-write scanning (and left only to scan reads), disabling all sorts of heuristics and finally completely disabling resident protection. Then I also disabled the Buzzsaw program related lines from my startup batch-file MBM5's scannning and monitoring of "IDE harddrives" (I thought it might be related - stupid I know) And yeah - usually computer was at least normally running for 12-24 hours and then at the morning (with DC projects running over nigh) I was confronted with freezed computer, but lately it occurs minutes after freshly starting it, with only the system processes and 4-5 user-processes running ((so before opening Firefox, Thunderbird and other numerous internet-related programs), and few times only with the ViceCity Gta-vc.exe process running. Anyway, see the complete list of my residents below: Uphclean.exe Avgnt.exe Avguard.exe CacheSentry.exe MBM5.exe Procexp.exe Winroll.exe MouseTrack.exe Totalcmd.exe and Fah502.exe & FahCore_65.exe or FahCore_78.exe or Driver.exe & Setihome.exe Apparently something mut be wrong, because this very same Windows XP (from the same CD) was already working error-free for two years with even more programs installed, with various "tweaks" applied (I left that "part" alone this time, lol ...), so what's going on with my Windows XP installation ?? Other common errors I was getting at that time of 0x0000007E BSODs, and occassionally also on other occasions but extremely rare, were: Code:
0x000000C2 BAD_POOL_CALLER 0x00000023 FAT_FILE_SYSTEM 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA P.S., I am saying "with my Windows XP installation", because I've run Windows 98/SE over night (btw., with SETI running), and there was no sign of anything similar, so it looks like it isn't a general computer's fault/failure but only XP's in particular. Oh and btw., I do use the "FCKGW" version of non-SP Windows XP, please don't be mad at me - please !! You see - it is actually useful to have Windows 98/SE still installed - otherwise I wouldn't be posting this post right now, and couldn't confirm that BSOD/freezing doesn't happen in it. Please help if you can, satyr

/UPDATE: Oh really sad news everybody - the "freezes without a 0x000000C5 BSOD" just occured also on Windows 98/SE, so it seems it is not Windows XP installation's fault, but general computer/hardware one.
Sad, sad, sad .... shirker

Problem solved, at least partially ...
I've run memtest86 and other RAM-related diagnostic utilities from Ultimate Boot CD, and now after all the forum-posting, etc., I think that my issue is finally somehow solved. It appears that BSODs were caused by a corrupted service (Agnitum Outpost's plugins I guess), and hard-system locks by a heat problem caused by DC projects (FAH & SETI in particular) and my new stove. For more details see this thread: This is getting out of control - 0x000000C5 and freezes, please HELP I opened on ArsTechnica forums. greetings all, satyr
