Check my homepage. It also lists some of good utilities, most of them "non-installs" (usually .zip containing files, or just one .exe executable, no installation procedure, wizards, etc. required), the "form" I prefer and I actually manage to replace most (exept antiviruses, firewalls, and similar low-lever apps) of my favourite "setup procedure" programs I was using in past, with "non-setups".

I hope you wil find it usefull. Here are three links with two versions (older and newer) of page:

http://satyrhosts2.greatnow.com/index.html
http://www.freewebs.com/satyrhosts/index.html
http://users.volja.net/tayiper/index.html

Btw, I will also need to update it soon (my home page), cause I found so many new useful stuff recently.

www.tucows.com - go for the freeware.
www.sourceforge.net - often has unix type applications ported to windows if you like that sort of thing.

Microsoft's TaskSwitch

I thought, I would share this one. It is a 40 KB application, called TaskSwitch, from Microsoft's PowerToys, which makes Alt+Tab feature much more advanced and powerful.

It shows capture of actual visible window of an app (not just icon and text-caption), and it reads app's windows in some advanced manner, that for example for Winamp, it shows three its main windows, and not just one (as Winamp's main windows are surely "made-of" these main classnames), Winamp Main Window, Winamp Playlist Editor, and Winamp Equalizer, and you can switch to any of them.

You can get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

Cheers

I will stick only to command-line programs this time, I can't describe them all separately, but here are listed mostly the main sites of my crucial and indispensable apps, with short description for each separate app, and its particular download link (or apps page), and also note that all apps listed here - are FREEWARE ...

So finally a list of main sites of my favorites apps, as I promised. At least as far as I remember, maybe it was some other forum ??

AS SHORT DESCRIPTIONS AS POSSIBLE:

1.First - Bitsum Technologies (or Collakesoftware), they describe themselfs as "Software Packaging, Wrapping, Protection, and Distribution Applications". There are many many useful programs on their site, but I especially use TrimPE.exe app for trimming executables (well, it seems it is not available separately, but was included into PESuite v1.00) and movelatr.exe, to set copy/delete/move file operation before Windows boot.

http://www.bitsum.com

http://www.collakesoftware.com/files/movel_101.zip

2.Second - GRC I use wizmo.exe, and other "security-realted" apps from:

http://grc.com/default.htm

http://grc.com/freepopular.htm

3.Third - Stevemiller software, I especially use global.exe from Win32 Console ToolBox 1.0 package. There are to many to describe them all:

http://stevemiller.net

http://stevemiller.net/apps

4.Then - Securitysoftware, I used the Sustain.exe application, which monitors choosen processes (as many as you wish, so if the process is terminated, then after specified amount of time (set as commandline parmaneter), it starts that process again. Very useful for crucial processes (firewall and antivirus realted significants, etc.)

http://www.securitysoftware.cc

http://www.securitysoftware.cc/apps.html

http://www.securitysoftware.cc/Programs/SUSTAIN.exe

5. The last discovered was Trayconizer.exe from Whitsoftdev. Many other useful programs there too.

http://www.whitsoftdev.com

http://www.whitsoftdev.com/trayconizer

6. Second - it is a 156 K in lenght command line program, called BACKUP9.exe - File Backup Utility, and it makes optional "generations" of backed-up files (as many as you specify with switch)

It's from Gammadyne, I use also others, like dels.exe, gs.exe (Greg'sDosShell), but there are also many other on Gammadyne site.

http://www.gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm#backup9

http://www.gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm#backup9

http://www.gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm#dels

http://www.gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm#gs

7. Third - app from Kephyr Labs, that "analyse changes made to the registry and file system on your Windows workstation", called SystemSherlock Lite

http://www.kephyr.com/index.phtml

http://www.kephyr.com/systemsherlocklite/index.phtml

8. Then - if you're running on NTFS formatted drive, here is Virtual Floppy Driver app from VMware's Software, I've been liked to it on some other forum.

http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware

http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vfd.html

http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vmtools.html

9. Next - are Doze.exe which pauses batch scripts during processing (you set timed-intervals), Beep.exe that plays sounds with system-speaker (on the end of the batch file for example), and also Srvstate.exe can be quite useful:

http://www.bastet.com

http://www.bastet.com/software/software.html

http://www.bastet.com/software/BEEP.ZIP

http://www.bastet.com/software/DOZE.ZIP

http://www.bastet.com/software/SRVSTATE.ZIP

10. And the last "most favorite" are from Sysinternals. I use and recommend these utilities below.

http://www.sysinternals.com

http://www.sysinternals.com/sitemap.shtml

One of the most used is called sdelete, and it's only 60 KB. It offers actually two things. Secure deleting files, as many times you want, and it rewrites file content (as "schredders" other software), as well as file name and extension, and you can nicely see/check all that with Filemon GUI application, guess what, also from Sysinternals

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/sdelete.shtml

Then second Contig, it is also command-line, and it offers to first analyze file-defragmentation, then allows to defragment single file (first app, I've seen to offer that), multiple files, it is directory recursive, etc, it also can make "pre-contiguous" files ("empty", defragmented files/defragmented before used, and containing any data), as far as I know with unlimited lenght.

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/contig.shtml

I also recommend Sync, the application that flushes modified file-system data from cache to disk, as stated on Sysinternals "insuring that it will be safe in the face of a crash"

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml

And another app Bginfo, that draws computer data on desktop (ncluding env. variables, file-contents, registry keys, etc.), sets pre-logon screen desktop, shows info in a window, etc.

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/bginfo.shtml

cheers all
